Our Story
Selah Junior is truly a gift from God Himself, a mission to preserve the innocence of little ones and built on the firm foundation of God’s Word. The word ‘Selah’ was imprinted on Mel’s heart months after she dedicated her life to Christ, leaving behind a former secular lifestyle.
MEL'S STORY:
Selah Junior is truly a gift from God, created to protect the sweet innocence of little ones and built on the strong foundation of God’s Word. The name "Selah" was imprinted on my heart after I left behind my old, secular life and dedicated myself to Christ. Little did I know how much this word would change everything!
Back in 2022, while reading through Psalms, I stumbled upon the word "Selah," and I was instantly hooked, like a magpie drawn to shiny treasure! I couldn’t ignore it. The word felt so special that I had to dig deeper. When I discovered it meant "praise, lift up, exalt," I was in awe. At the time, I was studying graphic design, so I started doodling the word for fun, playing with text layouts. And boom, just like that, it became my first post on my tiny, private Instagram, which had only about 15 followers. I didn’t think much about it at the time, but God had bigger plans!
That same year, I met Aidan, now the co-founder of Selah Junior (fun fact: he was an atheist back then, but more on that later). Fast forward to February 2023, and I was halfway through my graphic design degree, praying like crazy for God to show me how I could use my talents for His glory. I had been a secular photographer for years, but after a radical encounter with God in my apartment, I gave it all up to follow Jesus. So there I was, clueless about my next career step.
As graduation approached, I felt a fiery urgency to pray for direction, like a wildfire in my soul! Then, in just one week, three different people (at completely separate times) mentioned babywear and the need for something wholesome and God-honouring in that space. Each time, it felt like an electric zap straight to my heart, I knew God was calling me to do this. I prayed and asked Him what to name the brand, and clear as day, the answer was "Selah." The same "Selah" from my Instagram post! It felt like God had been planting the seeds all along.
I decided to make Selah Junior my final project for university. I felt led to do a two-week water fast, dedicating every detail to God, from the logo, to the colours, and even the designs for the first collection. My prayer was for Selah Junior to be more than just babywear, but a mission to weave holiness and God’s love into every single piece.
Our Motto: Pause | Ponder | Praise
In October 2023, during a heartfelt prayer session with a sister in Christ, we prayed about the future of Selah Junior. That very morning, I woke with the words "Pause, Ponder, Praise" on my mind and shared them with her. As soon as I did, we were overwhelmed by the presence of God and burst into prayer. She confirmed a vision God had shown her and even prophesied that my future husband would be my best friend and partner in this business. She said he would be my biggest supporter and reminded me to let go of control so that God could be in control. Amen!
And that brings us to Aidan, co-founder of Selah Junior, but you can hear straight from him.
AIDAN'S STORY
I didn’t begin my life as a Christian, in fact, I’ve only been a Christian for a short time, but my faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is undeniable.
Before coming to Christ, my life was all over the place. I went from wanting a military career, to pursuing professional fighting, to studying graphic design, to dabbling in business and freelance marketing. I found some small successes here and there, but nothing truly fulfilled me, because I was idolising my own desires.
At this point, I believed in a god, but I didn’t know God. The god I had in my mind was just a reflection of my own morals and desires. When I realised that, I had a moment of clarity: "If I’ve made god just a reflection of me, then that can’t be God, because God would be for everyone, not just me."
Around this time, I was seeing Mel quite often, and we would exchange ideas about the world and about God. Our conversations made me want to read the Bible, mainly so I could "find" contradictions within Christianity. But as I read through the Old Testament, I kept finding connections between Scripture and the world around us.
For example, in Judges, when Israel worships God, they thrive, but when they worship idols, they are punished by their enemies. This pattern isn’t just in the Bible, it can be applied to different societies throughout history. I saw how countries that abandon God become chaotic and corrupt, while those that follow God’s ways prosper.
These insights led me to believe that Jesus Christ is truly God. And when I confessed my faith, I had a supernatural encounter, something shifted in the physical world around me after I thanked Jesus. That’s when I decided to surrender my life to Him completely.
Now, part of how I’m living for God is by letting go of my old idols and using my skills in design, business, and marketing for His glory. I’ve partnered with Mel to co-found Selah Junior, combining my background with the discipline of a fighter to help build something meaningful. Everything happens for a reason, and God is good!
